The book has many examples. My favorite concerns the work done at Oticon an international hearing aids company. Their research showed that nearly 80% of the hearing impaired refused to wear hearing aids. A study of deep metaphors showed that consumers were thinking about hearing aids using the container, connection and transformation metaphors.   Key among these modern hearing aid features is direct streaming – the ability to transmit live audio from a mobile device to your hearing aids. In AIDS and Its Metaphors, which serves as a fine companion to Illness As A Metaphor, Sontag takes up the specific case of AIDS. AIDS and Its Metaphors was published inwhile Illness as a Metaphor was published ten years earlier, before the emergence of AIDS /5(36).
